Song of the Day – (Going Through) The Motions by Matthew West

“Whatever you do, do it from the heart for the Lord and not for people. You know that you will receive an inheritance as a reward. You serve the Lord Jesus Christ. –Colossians 3:23-24

In our Christian walk there is a serious danger in complacency. I’ve been convicted of the fact that in many ways I’ve just been going through the motions. I have a relationship with Christ, but it isn’t where it could be. I work hard preparing Sunday School lessons, doing homework for Bible College, and preparing Bible Studies for a bi-weekly get together with a family member, but in some ways it has all just become part of my routine. Am I truly seeking Jesus before each of these activities or am I just going through the motions? He has to be the all consuming reason for every one of these occasions; for every area of my life! Jesus gave His life for us, and so often we give Him our leftovers. As the song says, “I don’t want to spend my whole life asking, ‘what if I had given everything?’” How much could we accomplish for God if we laid ourselves aside and truly made our entire life’s purpose to serve Him? Too often we are not willing to pay the price that comes along with completely surrendering our lives and our will to the Almighty. Are we willing to give Him everything?

Dear Lord, restore my passion for You. God help me to put You first in everything. Help me to see each and every moment as an opportunity to bring you glory. Help me not to become complacent or just go through the motions. Help me to truly surrender it all to You. You are my God and my King. It is for you that I live. Let the light of your love shine through me so that others can come to know who You are through their interactions with me. Help me to be your hands and your feet and your mouthpiece in a broken world. I love you, Jesus.
