Praying with a Muslim Part II – Friend of God

Those of you who have been fMuslim Woman Prayingollowing this blog for awhile know that about a month and a half ago I had the opportunity to pray with a Muslim co-worker.  You can read the original post here. What you may not know, is that these prayers have continued and my relationship with this co-worker has deepened during this time.

As a devout Muslim, my co-worker has to pray at least five times a day at specific times. There are relatively few places she can do this where we work. Since I have one of the few offices, and the only truly private office in the building she comes to do these prayers in my office a few times a week.  While she prays to Allah, I pray in the name of Jesus. My prayers are focused on one thing – her salvation. I pray for Jesus to reveal Himself to her. I pray that she will feel the Holy Spirit moving in my office.  I pray that she will get a revelation of who He is.

On Friday she came in for her mid-afternoon prayers and I sat next to her praying to Jesus. After she finished praying she looked at me in a way I have never seen her look at me. She had this amazed and almost bewildered look on her face. Then she said in a sort of confused tone, “You are not Muslim, but I think God told me you are His friend. I don’t think I’m His friend, but I think you’re His friend.”

This truly was amazing! I don’t feel much like God’s friend with all the mistakes I’ve been making lately, but I do believe God was trying to tell her something. Is it possible that He was trying to convey to her that I know Him in a way that she doesn’t? Perhaps if she believes I am His friend, she will be more open to listening to what I have to say about Him.

NailsI believe He is slowly revealing Himself to her and I have faith that He is going to transform her life. Will you believe God with me? Will you pray for my Muslim friend to come to know that Jesus is her Savior? I am looking forward to the day when she will declare that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life!

In His Love,

Rebekah L

    • I believe the best way to show people Jesus is to care for them. I don’t agree with Islam, but I love Muslims and I pray for them to know the Truth of who He is!

      • I absolutely love this blog post AND this statement! It’s so often that people forget that LOVE and CARE is what Jesus wanted us to do for people – not condemnation and anger.

I’ll be following your journey with much interest! God bless you – and may He establish the work of your hands!

    • It is amazing, isn’t it? Sometimes it seems like I’ve been having all of these conversations with her about God and what I believe for so long and have seen little response on her part, but then a simple prayer like this shows me that God is indeed moving in her life!

    • Thank you. I truly believe in His time, that He will completely reveal Himself to her and she will have a “Saul Moment” where the scales fall off her eyes and she will see Jesus for who He is – the Savior and Redeemer of our souls!

  1. Aww, this is so cool. Many of us leave God out of our workplace because it is “illegal”. May God continue to grant you (and all of us) the grace to keep spreading His Word.

    • It’s so true, how many times have I kept my mouth shut about God because I was at work and we aren’t “supposed” to do that there? I thank God that He has given me a little more boldness recently to speak about Him when doors open and helped me to have the courage to do something totally out of the box like these prayers with my co-worker. May God help us all to spread His Word even when it’s a little scary or inconvenient.

  2. Oh girlfriend! I am crying and praying with His Spirit welling up in me! I have had a draw, a tug to you all for a long time – and it came not from being your guest writer … But long before you even invited me. ( I am honored to be a part of this ministry!) I sure hope to meet you all in person one day so we can rejoice in these things. Have and will be praying for your friend to become His friend!
    Live Blessed!

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment. We are all so blessed to have you as one of our guest bloggers! Perhaps one day we should plan a bloggers “meetup”, that would be fun! I appreciate your prayers for my friend. I so desire her to know Jesus Christ and I know He is able!! God Bless.

  3. I was so stoked when I saw the title of your article in my e-mail notification. And I already believed God was up to something when I read the first one. I am definitely praying, and I can’t wait for “Praying With a Muslim Part III.” Do you realize how lucky you are?! God totally handpicked you for this. Just think how beautiful it will be when you can have dinner with this woman a billion years from now.
