In my last few posts, I mentioned my roommate’s new aide. He started out great and personable, and got really nasty and caustic for no real reason. When he insulted me directly, I was finally able to do what I’d been praying to do – see the situation through God’s eyes, and love beyond my own reactions and emotions. Instead, I prayed for peace over him and peace in the house, and sure enough, the next day he was back to the way he’d been when he started. God is so good!
Now, we found out Sunday night that his father had a stroke last week. Apparently they had been estranged for a few years, and they were supposed to talk last Thursday. Giving my roommate a shower, the aide missed his dad’s call. That night the stroke happened (but he didn’t find out about his dad’s condition til Sunday).
In the blink of an eye, we were able to come together as a team to lighten his work schedule so that he could go upstate to be with his dad. In the blink of an eye, we were able to love on this man and be an emotional support. In the blink of an eye, we were able to promise to keep him and his father in our prayers.
I mentioned before not knowing why God does things the way He does. But I know that He is never stagnant, and that every moment is planned. I know He has a strong plan for this man’s life, and that our paths have been intertwined for at least a part of his journey.
I know that He is always moving, in us and around us, and I am humbled to be along for the ride.
